The DA in the Western Cape welcomes the decision by the Western Cape Government to intervene in the financial calamity of Theewaterskloof Local Municipality.

The ongoing financial crisis in Theewaterskloof (TWK) has clearly reached a point where decisive action is required.

For the past three years, a PA/ANC coalition has propelled the TWK Municipality to the brink of financial ruin, and basic services have suffered greatly as a result.

The DA/GOOD/SRWP coalition tried to stop the rot by briefly forming a new government recently but was unfortunately thwarted by the VF+ who decided that the mismanagement and corruption of the ANC/PA was attractive as long as they can have the mayoral chain. This effectively sunk all efforts to bring about much-needed recovery.

Of vital importance now is the restoration of democracy by the legal take-over of the TWK Council and the election of new executive office-bearers. This has thus far been derailed by the nefarious collusion between the VF+/ANC/PA. They will now be stopped.

The DA and its coalition partners, after the election of new leadership, will work together with the Provincial Government to ensure financial stability and improved service delivery for all.
