The DA is pleased to announce the election of the DA’s Browen Johnson as the new Executive Mayor of George at today’s Council meeting. See photo here.

Browen, a qualified diagnostic radiographer, has risen through the DA ranks since joining the party in 2019. He served many roles including Deputy Mayor, Whip of Council, Ward Councillor and Ward 23 Branch Chairperson.

Serving alongside him is newly-elected Deputy Mayor, Gert van Niekerk, from one of our coalition partners, the FF Plus.

To support the mayor in delivering his vision, a restructure Mayoral Committee has been appointed. The members are:

Whip of Council – Ald Jackie von Brandis

MMC: Social Development – Cllr Melvin Roelfse

MMC: Community Safety and Mobility – Cllr Stag Cronje

MMC: Civil Engineering Services – Cllr Donovan Gultig

MMC: Human Settlements – Cllr Jean Safers

MMC: Electro-technical Services – Cllr Monique Simmers

MMC: Corporate Services – Cllr Johan Du Toit

MMC: Human Resources – Cllr Jayzee Jantjies

MMC: Community Services – Cllr Erika Brown

MMC: Financial and Strategic Services – Ald Iona Kritzinger

In addition, we look forward to working with our coalition partners – the FF Plus and ACDP – to ensure stability in the municipality.

We are confident that Browen will elevate George, address the needs of residents and make local government even more accessible. We wish him immense success
