The Democratic Alliance bids farewell to Andre Truter as he steps down as DA Mayor of Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM).

Andre has been serving the Municipality since 2018. He stood as the DA’s candidate in the Ward 5 by-election, which he won with 85% of the vote. A year later, he was appointed to serve as a Mayco member. In 2021, he was elected as SBM Mayor.

During his mayorship, he achieved many successes, most notably:

  • Achieved five clean audits
  • Connected SBM to the world through the Baobab Fibre Project
  • Won the Green Drop Award for the Hopefield Wastewater Treatment Works
  • Opened the new R12 million Central Fire Station for faster and more efficient emergency response
  • Recognised as a top performer in the 2023 Municipal Waste Management Programme, improving service delivery

Though he is hanging up his mayoral chain, he will remain a loyal DA member. He remains committed to strengthening the DA in Saldanha Bay and pledges to support the party as he ventures into the private sector.

The well-being of SBM residents remained a top priority, and he made a meaningful impact in their lives.

The DA expresses our gratitude to Andre for his unwavering dedication and industrious work ethic in his Municipality as well as upholding the principles and values of the party.
