The DA unveiled a striking new billboard in Khayelitsha today, representing a new political reconfiguration in the Cape Metro Region ahead of the Local Government Elections. See photos here and here.
The billboard features former ANC Caucus Leader in the City of Cape Town, Banele Majingo, who has joined the DA. Written in isiXhosa, the text reads: “Owaye yinkokheli ye-ANC eKapa ukhetha i-DA. Nawe unako!” Translated into English: “Cape Town’s ANC leader chooses the DA. You can too.”
Highlighting the steady improvements residents in Cape Town’s townships are experiencing, DA Western Cape Deputy Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis said in DA-led Cape Town townships, residents have greater access to jobs and services than in many ANC-run townships such as Alexandra and Soweto. This is largely accredited to a government prioritising service delivery and long-term planning.
Banele’s decision to leave the ANC was due to absent local councillors who prioritised their interests rather than building communities.
His decision to join the DA was motivated by his personal values and principles aligning to the DA. He was equally drawn to our unwavering commitment to deliver for poor residents and the unemployed.
Since last year, many ANC members have joined the DA, citing growing dissatisfaction within the ANC. This trend is expected to continue.
The billboard sends a statement that the DA cares for the people of every community and is working tirelessly to build a better life for all. Banele and many other voters are showing that it is time to move to the DA and elect a councillor who believes in the mission of a City of hope and opportunity for all.
