The DA has long maintained that inbound investment follows good governance, which creates the conditions for business to thrive. This has proven true in the Western Cape under DA leadership.

This week the DA-led Western Cape Government (WCG) secured a stunning R50-billion in new foreign and local investment, as investors recognise that DA policy and DA governance promises growth and return on their investment. This investment windfall came as a result of Premier Alan Winde and Minister Ivan Meyer’s ‘Western Cape Investment Summit.’

To bring R50-billion into the Western Cape bodes very well for ongoing job-creation, growth of small and medium businesses, and economic opportunities for thousands. The Western Cape will continue to be the Number 1 job-creator in South Africa, and will continue to see the lowest unemployment rate, with investment drives like this.

We offer this as a “beacon of hope” to all South Africans – provincial governments can work, can grow their economies, and can attract enormous investment if they are governed by a party that cares, and implements sound policy, free of corruption and free of self-enrichment.

Already, the Western Cape is responsible for 89% of the jobs created in South Africa, at a net level. This is both a huge responsibility, but also a huge credit to the DA-led WCG.

The DA congratulates Premier Alan Winde and Minister Ivan Meyer on this successful investment summit.

Notable inbound investments secured by the WCG include:

  • R8-billion, for the new Cape Winelands Airport, a game changer for growing air access to the Province;
  • R850-million for a new Cape Town port-linked fresh produce cold chain, to improve the ease of shipping the Province’s vast agricultural exports; and
  • R5.1-billion for a new technology-led development of 3,600 housing units in the Province.

The DA is proud to be able to lead and govern the Western Cape in a way that delivers jobs, investment, economic growth and prosperity. The objective of becoming a R1-trillion economy by 2035, with the private sector on board, is a tangible promise to the people.
