The DA in Theewaterskloof calls for immediate answers from the PA/ANC/GOOD coalition on the Deputy Mayor, John Michels (GOOD), and the Speaker, Derrick Appel’s (ANC) proposed plans to attend the Rugby World Cup 2023 under the guise of an official state visit.
The DA takes note of a letter addressed to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) by the Theewaterskloof municipal manager requesting approval for the trip. The officials also plan to travel to the United Kingdom to meet with the Leicester Tigers Rugby Club, and pay a courtesy visit to the South African Embassies in both the United Kingdom and France.
If the official visits are an excuse to attend the Rugby World Cup, executives from a municipality like Theewaterskloof – where services continue to crumble under their corrupt and incapable leadership – should be ashamed.
The DA expects this delegation to account on the benefit that this excursion holds for the people of Theewaterskloof and calls on the PA-led coalition to explain the said letter and to give clarity on who will be footing the bill.
