Today, we have attended a graduation ceremony of 20 new Shadow Careers graduates, who will soon be employed at one of their international call centre partners. The 20 additional graduates bring the total permanent appointments to over 300.

Earlier this year, Shadow Careers chose Mitchells Plain as the location to launch their new career creation centre, giving many of our young people in Mitchells Plain and surrounding areas, such as Khayelitsha, an opportunity to upskill themselves and launch their careers close to home.

Shadow Careers are aspiring to create a staggering 1 500 new jobs for unemployed youth over the next three years. Given the high unemployment rate in South Africa, this is extremely encouraging.

We wish to applaud the DA run Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town for creating an environment that enables economic growth and creates job opportunities, especially where it’s most needed.

Mitchells Plain and surrounding areas are faced with crime, gangsterism and other social ills on a daily basis, and as a caring DA government it is important to work hard and give hope for a better future.

We believe that the successes achieved here will encourage other corporates to invest in communities such as Mitchells Plain and bring much-needed change.
