The DA in the Western Cape urges all residents to take part in the City of Cape Town‘s public participation process for the release of land for social housing in District Six. The District Six fruit and vegetable site will now be available for sale for the construction of 150 social houses by private developers.
MPP Matlhodi Maseko says, “The Western Cape has the highest number of options for social housing in the country. They offer decent, reasonably priced rental housing in convenient areas in urban locations across the province. As a result, social housing has promoted spatial, social, and economic integration in urban areas around the Western Cape.
The DA-run City of Cape Town is driven to provide more housing opportunities for the larger community due to the Western Cape’s expanding population, particularly in Cape Town. The proposed development will significantly impact those in Cape Town who make between R1 850 and R22 000 per month. It will provide them with the opportunity to know the dignity of home ownership.
The DA in the Western Cape encourages the public to take part in the District Six social housing public participation process to ensure that their voices are heard on this groundbreaking initiative.”
