A reply to a DA parliamentary question has revealed that 115 Western Cape Government-sponsored sporting events were planned for the province this year. These sporting events highlight the DA-run Western Cape’s efforts to grow the provincial sporting sector, while also massively contributing to local economies.

Recent events have already proven the tremendous economic benefits these spectacles bring to the region. The renowned Two Oceans Marathon, annually injects a staggering R672 million into the local and provincial economy, while the recent E-Prix event contributed a remarkable R2 billion, further solidifying the Western Cape’s status as a hotspot for major sporting investments.

Excitement continues to build as the upcoming Netball World Cup approaches, expected to generate a remarkable R2.5 billion infusion into local economies, accompanied by the arrival of an estimated 120,000 visitors who will undoubtedly contribute to the province’s economic prosperity by spending their money in our communities.

Some of the sporting events planned include the South African Craven Week, HSBC Cape Town Sevens, SA vs. India bilateral cricket tour, the Absa Cape Epic, and many more.

MPP Gillion Bosman said: “The 115 sponsored sporting events planned for this year are a testament to the DA-run Western Cape’s commitment to promoting sports, fostering local talent, and driving economic growth. These events not only showcase the province’s rich sporting culture but also attract significant investments, creating opportunities for businesses and residents alike.”
