The Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works, yesterday, visited a new clinic development in Villiersdorp to evaluate how its construction has been progressing. The construction of the clinic is being funded by the Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works and is worth over R20 million.

While the project is only at stage 5 with 56% of construction complete, the Committee was pleased by the progress and management of the project. We observed significant progress across the board, from departmental officials to contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and architects.

The clinic will not only bring much-needed healthcare services to the people of Villiersdorp but the project has also ensured that project contractors and subcontractors provide locals of the Villiersdorp community with employment opportunities during the construction period. The employment opportunities and investment into the local economy have been greatly welcomed by the community.

As Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works, I will engage the department to receive regular updates on the clinic’s development. The Committee looks forward to following the project’s progress and plans to return when it has been completed and witness Villierdorp’s residents benefit from this essential facility.
